Since its creation in early 1976, La Trobe University's Institute of Latin American Studies (ILAS) and its academic members have pioneered the study of Latin American society and culture in Australasia. Our scholars have paid particular attention to the study of Mexico, Cuba, Brazil, the Andean region (especially Colombia and Venezuela) and Chile, as well as to the comparative development of Australia and Argentina.
